Ali Zanjani

About his work:

Depicting the cultural and social landscape of Iran, a quicksand for changing political landscapes, and yet home to one of the world's oldest civilizations, is the undertaking of Ali Zanjani's photography, whose different series have traditionally explored taboos in a post-revolution society.
In his work, he has created images based on lost photographs of pre-revolution society, shrouded in mystery and beset with question marks for those born after 1979. His photography includes a series on wrestling, Iran's national sport.
Another series captures images based on lost photographs of a pre-Iranian revolution women's basketball team.
In light of Iran's current political climate, the images are fascinating, exotic and paradoxical.
