On the occasion of the first solo exhibition of Iranian-British artist Farhad Ahrarnia at Galerie Janine Rubeiz:
Rose Issa projects is collaborating with Galerie Janine Rubeiz on the project of Peace on War- a series of embroidered Matisse-like cut-outs on different military textiles, which themselves have motives inspired by natural elements of camouflage.
Born in 1971, Ahrarnia’s work comments on the many layers of history and modernity, craftsmanship and concepts, facts and fiction in contemporary Middle Eastern politics.
For this first exhibition, Ahrarnia researched into antiques monuments and motives; Gertrude Bell’s journey, the scholar and the spy in the Middle East. Silver works - (the dig series)- , shovels that are engraved with Greco-Roman reliefs, taken from the Lebanese National Museum.
