Petram Chalach

Born in Achrafieh, Lebanon, in 1988, Petram Chalach is a self-taught painter whose practice spans across painting, ceramics, photography, and digital art. With a background in jewelry making, his practice explores themes of perception and identity.

Chalach’s work stems from nature and visual language, condensing political ideas, historical events, and reflections into poetic, metaphoric imagery.

His work examines the tensions between the absurd and the sublime, the individual and the collective, encouraging viewers to question their perceptions of reality.

The artist’s practice is marked by an oscillation between irony and sincerity, pushing the boundaries of visual language to challenge conventional notions of reality. His art invites a deeper engagement with the complexities of contemporary life.

Represented by Galerie Janine Rubeiz, Petram Chalach is currently residing and exhibiting in Beirut, where he continues to contribute to contemporary art through innovative and thought-provoking pieces. He was one of the two recipients of the Boghossian Foundation Prize for visual arts in 2024, and was invited to the Arts dans les Cités art residency by the Petites Cités de Caractère® de Bretagne association in collaboration with L’Institut Français du Liban.

In addition to several contributions to group shows since 2015, Chalach’s first solo exhibition “Decay of Lying” took place in 2018 at KED – Beirut. He held his second solo “The Mourning After” at ARTLAB in 2019, and his third exhibition “Stereo Vision” takes place at Galerie Janine Rubeiz, between December 18, 2024 and January 17, 2025.

With the gallery, he has taken part in group shows, such as “30 Years of Color” (2023), “Visions of Today” (2021), “October 17, 2019” (2020) and “Bitasarrof” an exhibition for the benefit of the Lebanese National Library, in 2016.
