"Nostalgic Imagery"
"The tendency to engage in nostalgic feelings varies over the course of one individual's lifetime. A narrow definition of nostalgia suggests that an individual cannot experience it truly for a period or event which he/she has not lived.
These flashbacks from our past, impregnated with nostalgia often emerge as images that can be vaguely discerned and carry us for a moment to a specific place, sight, smell, setting that reminisce of our childhood.
GJR invites four female artists to explore their own personal imagery of nostalgia by creating a concept "Nostalgic Imagery" that allows us to go back in time through images where we can see anodyne objects, but evoking a significant meaning.
Family and home serve as potent stimuli for nostalgia in the works presented by Chafa Ghaddar and Dalia Baassiri.
A wide variety of other factors such as persons, objects and events can also trigger these distinctly personal feelings as Laura Pharaon explores her inner most deep emotions through her abstract renditions.
As for Rima Maroun, she explores through the lens, the notion of beyond the image that constantly haunts her but yet captures those memories she most holds on to.
Personal deep feelings, sweet old memories, flashbacks...all in a combination of mixed sights that are reflected in this... Nostalgic Imagery"
